DETAILS

Converting drawing and real-world lengths

At 1:n scale, multiply a drawing length by n to get the real length. Divide a real length by n to find the drawing length.

1:100 example

A 42 mm line at 1:100 represents 4,200 mm or 4.2 m. A real 6 m length is drawn as 60 mm.

Good to know

Screen zoom and print resizing can make a measured line differ from the stated scale.
